After I just chatted with Brother Muhammad Mehedi this afternoon he just gave the link of MC Farid that will be featured on his website MUSLIMRAP.NET. So I just go the link mentioned.

Great, Farid is good MC and the lyrics told the truth and reality we have. This is some video so could see there. I hope next time I could do interview him here :)

This is some information about him from his site:

Born in San Jose, CA, of Indonesian, Singaporean and Arab descent, Farid's interest in Pop/R&B and general entertainment began at an early age, where he spent years informally singing, finding, learning and perfecting his sound.

Inspired by 90's R&B greats such as Babyface and Boyz II Men, Farid hopes to bring back that quality of smooth Soul to "Pop" music, while not ignoring it's fun-loving youthful nature.

Alhamdulillah I participated on every SA'I Zine editions until this 4th edition. Usually I did as local distributor for Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (JABODETABEK) area. This video was taken when JPRMI (Jaringan Pemuda dan Remaja Masjid Indonesia = Indonesia Mosque Youth and Teen Network) did a direct action to protest Egypt as their ignorance to Palestine people as they blocked any supplies to Palestine in front of Egypt embassy at Jakarta.

In this video, Thufail Al Ghifari, an emcee from Jakarta was interviewed about this activity and his thought: good, clear and brilliant.

Terminology: Hip Hop

A friend just gave me suggestion abut this blog. He commented that I should place some short terminology about hip hop and anything related for so called "hip hop" beginner. Even me, also a beginner but my interest into this culture made me searched something about it.

I started with Wikipedia, as a well known free encyclopedia:

Hip hop is a music genre and cultural movement which developed in New York City in the early 1970s primarily among African Americans and Latino Americans. Hip Hop's four main elements are Mc'ing or Rhythm And Poetry (often called Rapping), DJing, graffiti writing, and breakdancing. Other elements include beatboxing, hip hop fashion, and slang. Since first emerging in the Bronx, the lifestyle of hip hop culture has spread around the world.

When hip hop music began to emerge, it was based around DJs who created rhythmic beats by looping breaks (smalls portions of songs emphasizing a percussive pattern) on two turntables. This was later accompanied by "rapping" (a rhythmic style of chanting). An original form of dancing, and particular styles of dress, arose among followers of this new music. These elements experienced considerable refinement and development over the course of the history of the culture.

The relationship between graffiti and hip hop culture arises from the appearance of new and increasingly elaborate and pervasive forms of the practice in areas where other elements of hip hop were evolving as art forms, with a heavy overlap between those who wrote and those who practiced other elements of the culture. Beatboxing is a mainly percussive vocal form in which various technical effects of hip hop DJs are imitated.

My Brother, Thufail Al Ghifari

He is my brother that I've found in this scene. I just got his information from my friend, Hendra as he gave me an information that there was a hip hop album that full of spirit of Islam.

So, I started became his cassette distributor for his 1st album "Syair Perang Panjang".

I like this album very much even some reviewer stated that this album was still raw. Hehehe, I love raw style. Yup there a song that answered song "Puritan" from HOMICIDE, a hip hop collective, yup they are my friend too. You may listen to the songs of this album by buying from Thufail Al Ghifari licensed distributor (like me hehe) or downloading at the internet (use Google Bro ..)

I haven't got any of his new information. As long as I know he will prepare for 3rd album and also for his rock band, THE ROOTS OF MADINAH.
